I'm going to forgo my usual apology for the lateness of this podcast and instead, simply tell you what's been going on in Unblinking Ear HQ in the interim:

Our showcases for the Northside Fest were enormously successful (read: adequate). If you missed out, you can hear the Gotobeds set on NYC Taper.

I did a pair of fill-ins on WFMU, one my usual nonsense and one a "dad rock" special for Father's Day. Not sure what dad rock is? Don't worry. It's made up.

Finally, Jared Leibowich is on tour, including a Brooklyn show with Big Quiet and Big Bliss. Go see him. He's nice.

However, since I'm not attending this SXSW fest (conference? showcase? synergetic business opportunity?) in Austin this week for the umpteenth consecutive year, you get to hear a collection of new music (and reissues) presented in a succinct, non-overwhelming capacity that will not leave you with an STD.

Caveat emptor. I have to confess, dear listener, that this edition of the podcast is not up to par. Oh sure, the songs are all excellent but the sequence and "flow" is severely lacking. I have failed as curator when I can't even order songs in a manner of more significance than an iPod shuffle.

Perhaps I'll do better on my WFMU fill-in this Saturday at 3pm EST. Or maybe I'll just waste my time playing Simpsons Tapped Out on my iPhone instead of preparing like I did for this podcast. (My handle is "djpbruno" if you should want to add me as a friend.)

The Unblinking Ear Podcast: Springtime Miracles

Two minor miracles today. One: the New York Mets won their opening day contest against the Atlanta Braves despite only scoring one run and nearly wasting a gem of a return from Johan Santana. Two: I managed to back announce this entire podcast without having a sneezing fit despite the allergies that have plagued me the past couple of days. Incidentally, if it seems that the volume of the songs contained herein varies wildly please excuse this as I can't hear anything right now due to congestion.
